About Barestate
We track where public money goes. Most of it never makes the news. We pull the receipts.
Most platforms sell you opinion. We give you the source records — searchable, structured, raw.
What We Do
We aggregate primary-source data from federal contract awards, lobbying disclosures, congressional financial reports, FEC filings, FARA registrations, and federal grant databases. Then we structure it so anyone can trace money and influence through Washington.
That's it.
We don't tell you what it means. We don't editorialize. We give you the documents and let you read them yourself.
Why This Matters
Coverage of government activity is filtered through whoever benefits from a given framing. The records aren't. Disclosure forms, contract awards, lobbying filings, and trade reports are all public — they're just buried in PDFs, scanned attachments, and portals nobody reads.
We unbury them.
How We Work
- Pull primary sources from federal disclosure systems
- Normalize across agencies, vendors, recipients, and time
- Cross-reference filings to surface patterns disclosure forms were never designed to show
- Update continuously as new filings are posted
Data over narratives. We don't run the conclusions through a press cycle.
Who This Is For
Journalists tracking money flows. Researchers building accountability tools. Citizens who want to verify what they read instead of trusting the framing.
If you're looking for hot takes on policy, this isn't the place.
If you want the records — clean, structured, sourced — we're here.
